
ives. began writing music while studying dance full-time in Sydney in 2015. She draws heavily on her background in movement and love of the piano which she began learning at the age of five on her Great-grandmother's Gulbransen Pianola.
Releasing her first single Callin’ Ur Phone in 2016 with the guidance of longtime collaborator Mark Perkins and high-school friend, Evan Sinton fka. MAALA, ives. generated buzz from local and international media and labels. Callin’ Ur Phone was featured by choreographer Lucy Doherty in her workshop at Australian Dance Festival which annually hosts 5,000 dancers from across Australia and charted at #1 on Radio One’s Top 11.
Her second single 172 made its way onto Indie Current and Fine and landed her spots on BeatRoute and Hilly Dilly, establishing her a close relationship with Coup de Main Magazine. Dubbed “rising kiwi pop princess” by Sniffers in 2020 at the release of her debut EP Romantic, produced with Mark Perkins and Shannon Fowler aka. Tom Lark and with the support of Red Bull Music and NZ On Air. ives. alternative and electro-pop hits have garnered collectively millions of streams online. Circulating both NZ mainstream and student radio stations; charting on the Aotearoa Top 40 and placing her in a multitude of editorial and individual playlists on Spotify with All Night Long featuring in Vogue France’s ‘Février 2020’, mix and Rain on ‘Just Chill’.
In 2023, ives. smooth vocals and alluring harmonies appeared on indie heartthrob Heavy Chest’s single, Next to My Body under label Nice Guys and Shannon Matthew Vanya’s funk-driven Saw It In Your Eyes, co-written by The Phoenix Foundation’s, Samuel Flynn Scott.
‘Lonely Tears’ and ‘Babylon’ mark a reintroduction for ives. following an emotionally turbulent few years. Following the release of Fallin’ for You in 2021, the rising pop singer then became the full-time carer for her mother diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. When her mum then moved to a permanent care facility, ives. found herself also dealing with the breakup of a seven-year relationship; songwriting was her salvation, a cathartic lifeline.
